James leads mapping and research at Fowler Fortescue, providing the data, analysis and technical insight that underpins decision-making across rural estates.

With over 20 years’ experience across rural business, his background includes hands-on farming, working as an assistant estate manager in Scotland and serving as an NFU Agent and Group Secretary.  This gives him a practical understanding of how land and estates operate, alongside the technical expertise required to support them effectively.

James plays a central role in ensuring that estate decisions, planning and project work are grounded in accurate, reliable information. His work includes developing mapping systems, undertaking detailed research and providing the analysis that supports both strategic decisions and day-to-day estate management.

He works closely with land agents and project teams, ensuring that work across the estate is informed by a clear and detailed understanding of land, assets and their context.

James brings a pragmatic and detail-focused approach, ensuring that complexity is translated into clear, usable information and that decisions are supported by a thorough understanding of the land in practice.
